Guía de configuración de Lihuen GNU/Linux 4 para una notebook HP Probook 4520s. Esta guía es para las que traen placas wireless Broadcom, hay otras que traen placas ralink y se las puede hacer funcionar instalando el paquete firmware-ralink.
En general el hardware funciona sin ninguna configuración especial excepto la placa wireless y el lector de huellas digitales. En esta página se explica como configurar la placa de wireless.
Documentación sobre notebooks
Este método fue probado recientemente ya que el método 2 no funcionó en nuestras ultimas pruebas.
Para hacer funcionar la placa con este método hay que actualizar el kernel e instalar un firmware, todo esto debe hacerse con la máquina conectada a Internet (para lo que se puede usar la interfaz cableada que funciona sin instalar nada).
Primero hay que agregar los repositorios de backports como se indica en Repositorios_con_paquetes_extra_para_Lihuen/Debian#Backports.
Luego instalamos el kernel y el firmware, para lo que hay que loguearse como root:
su apt-get update apt-get -t squeeze-backports install linux-image-3.2.0-0.bpo.2-686-pae apt-get install firmware-brcm80211
Luego reiniciamos (o descargamos y volvemos a cargar el módulo brcmsmac).
Por último puede ser que la placa se encuentre apagada por software (los mismo que el Bluetooth), para encenderlos podemos usar el siguiente comando:
rfkill unblock all
Podemos ver el estado de los dispositivos con:
rfkill list
Para encender los dispositivos de a uno:
rfkill unblock wifi rfkill unblock bluetooth
Para pasar a ahorro de energía (se apagan la placa wireless y el bluetooth):
rfkill block all
O bien:
rfkill block wifi rfkill block bluetooth
También se puede ir cambiando el estado del bluetooth y wifi con la tecla que tiene dibujada una antena (está a la derecha de la tecla F12), pero en las últimas pruebas el LED indicador de estado permanece naranja, por lo que la única manera de ver que efecto tuvo presionar la tecla es usar el comando "rfkill list".
La forma más rápida de hacer funcionar la placa wireless es, irónicamente, instalando un paquete llamado module-assistant desde Internet.
module-assistant es una herramienta que descarga, compila e instala automáticamente módulos del kernel.
Así que los pasos a seguir (siempre estando conectados a Internet) serían:
1. Abrir una terminal, loguearse como root e instalar module-assistant:
su apt-get install module-assistant
2. Ejecutar module-assistant indicándole que compile e instale el driver broadcom-sta:
m-a a-i broadcom-sta
(pide confirmación varias veces para ir instalando los paquetes necesarios, en general es seguro ir poniendo que sí a todo).
3. Reiniciar la máquina.
4. Si usás el manejador de red de Gnome ya debería estar funcionando. Si usás wicd para conectarte a Internet (por ejemplo en Lihuen LXDE se usa wicd) tenés que hacer los siguientes pasos para configurarlo:
